This piece is inspired by a past experience that I had in my favorite mountain town, Telluride, Colorado. Years ago I visited the famous Telluride Bluegrass Festival and on my way home that evening I was surprised by a very large moth fluttering in the light by my door. It stopped me in my tracks and I spent a good while inspecting the delicate creature that was as large as my palm. Years later, I still think about that weekend and the beautiful moth. I haven’t seen anything like it ever since and I knew I wanted to make a piece in homage to that beautiful moment.
Recently my neighbor gifted me this cello that no longer played. Once I saw the reflected f-holes and wing like silhouette, I knew right away it would make the perfect Telluride moth. Cellos are often used in bluegrass bands making it even more fitting.
I incorporated found objects to visually tell my story while adding texture and interest. Some of the pieces included are vintage brass banjo and guitar belt buckles, turquoise, my grandmas antique carved buttons, agate and stained glass.
This piece can be picked up for free at my studio in RiNo, I also offer free shipping to the Denver area or you can select an option to include shipping below.
Thanks for looking.
